Over the last decade, technology has given rise to new global economic concepts and trends aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), which led to creating new jobs that require a significant level of specialization and that are known as “future jobs”. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the world has witnessed an unprecedented trend in the “remote work” market, reflected by emerging trends in employment which relied particularly on digital and technical skills. These trends highlighted the importance of capacity building, and enabled qualified employees to shift to different sector or jobs in order to keep up with the increased global demand on future jobs. While technology sector will create 150 million new jobs globally in the next five years, studies suggest that the gap will increase, particularly in advanced technology sectors which are the fastest growing and the most impactful sectors in shaping the future. Through the Future Skills program, provided in partnership with the world’s largest professional platform LinkedIn, we strive to empower youth with the skills of the future to promote their participation in the labor market, enrich the intellectual and practical contribution to technological and digital jobs in the future, and bridge the skills’ gap in different sectors. This will enhance the competitiveness of youth and enable them to play a pivotal role in the knowledge-based economy and in achieving the UAE Centennial 2071. Future Skills is a training program for a period of 12 months, targeting students, employees, and others who wish to join the labor market through working in a technology-based future job. The program consists of specialized courses, including lectures, workshops and sessions that aim to exchange experiences via LinkedIn. |
